Elon Musk has announced plans to create a tool called 'TruthGPT' amidst his concerns about the potential for AI to cause "civilizational destruction".
On April 17th, Fox News reported that Elon Musk plans to develop a new large language model (LLM) known as “TruthGPT” that will rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Musk stated that TruthGPT will be designed to explore the mysteries of the universe and seek maximum truth.
During the interview, Musk also expressed his concerns about the alleged “left-wing bias” in the industry, stating that ChatGPT is “programmed by left-wing experts, which train the chatbots to lie.” This is not the first time Musk has voiced such concerns, as he previously tweeted about the dangers of “highly advanced AI” and signed a petition calling for a pause on related research to evaluate safety concerns.
Musk acknowledged the crowded LLM market and addressed concerns about his latest venture, stating that he believes TruthGPT’s focus on understanding the universe will make it less likely to pose a danger to humans. In Musk’s words,
“an AI that cares about understanding the universe is unlikely to annihilate humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”
While Musk’s announcement has garnered attention, it remains to be seen how his TruthGPT will differ from existing LLMs, such as ChatGPT. Nonetheless, the push for greater truth-seeking capabilities in AI is a welcomed development in the industry. However, it is important to ensure that advancements in AI are made with safety and ethical considerations in mind.
